Best Feature Award: Pridelands Wildlife Film Festival

What a joy to share that Pridelands Wildlife Film Festival has awarded Blue Burning the Best Feature Length Award.

“Your film captivated the jury from beginning to end, with its compelling portrayal of community connectedness to the ocean and the challenges they face. Jury members praised the stunning imagery and creative storytelling, noting the film as “very impactful with a good storyline” and a “masterpiece crafted in the edit suite.” The visuals, including the innovative use of double exposure blending, were particularly admired, and the film was recognised for offering a fresh and fascinating perspective.”

Heartfelt thanks to the PWFF team, whose support and magnanimity has been remarkable. This film was made alongside courageous coastal communities resisting offshore oil expansion in South Africa, and this acknowledgement belongs as much to them as it does to the filmmaking team. We’re incredibly grateful to the festival, jury, and audiences for engaging so thoughtfully with the work.

Pridelands Wildlife Film Festival (PWFF) stands as a premier platform for African wildlife, nature, and environmental storytelling. Their vision is to “fundamentally shift global wildlife narratives by empowering African filmmakers to lead conservation dialogues through authentic, culturally-rooted storytelling…The African culture and traditions are intertwined with nature. Numerous stories and rituals are influenced by natures cycles of life and re-birth; a story many generations have learnt and passed on, but rarely told by its people to the world.”
